Fix Oahu Now! Panos Prevedouros for Mayor of Honolulu

Let's get to work and Fix Oahu. Now!

The Stop Rail Now Initiative is a fine example of citizens asserting their First Amendment Right to Petition the Government. The government should hear the loud voice of 50,000 people and take action. A "no rail" statement with a simple yes or no response is requested on the November 2008 ballot.

I want to recap the mayor's manipulations where he first laughed at this effort, then asked for a petition that includes solutions, then he had his consulting firm's arm to create an anti-petition drive full with TV ads, then he picked a fight with citizens, then he picked a fight with the governor, then he said he supports people's right to vote, now he wants his own charter change with a transit authority add on.

This is misleading, reactive and manipulative leadership.

I'd like to believe that premise, but mistake #1 that folks make is underestimating their opponents. We're running as hard as we can to make sure we're in slot 1!

I've always worked off the premise that it's unlikely anyone will get 50%+1 in sept. Hence, yeah, we make sure you are in 1st slot [ok, mebbe we'll accept 2nd] on that day ...

Here's the link to the video of the city clerk rejecting the petition

Did you see the video? The city rejected SRN's petition. Now it goes to court.

Honestly, truthfully, the best way for SRN to get it's goals accomplished is to see to it that I make it through the September primary. I am the only mayoral candidate who will, as my first official act as mayor, end the rail project.

The ballot issue for SRN will be decided in the courts, and the ballot question itself will come in November.

Our next major goal is to get me through the primary. What say you?

OK, so the petitions were submitted, and any honest vetting process will show there are more than enough valid sigs. to warrant the question's inclusion on the ballot. The questions become -- how next will the city try to thwart this, and since you are obviously occupied, how can the rest of us assist Stop Rail Now to ensure this does indeed appear on the ballot?
