Does professional management with high level technical knowledge make a difference?
In the 1980s engineer Lee Iacocca became a household name by turning Chrysler around.
1990's engineer Alan Mullaly project managed the complicated Boeing 777 to a
major success in commercial aviation. He was a surprising choice as CEO
of Ford Motor. Under his lead, Ford was the only US manufacturer that
did not go bankrupt in the 2008-2010 recession.
Roughly one fifth of US companies have an engineer at the helm.
90% of Congress is lawyers. Exactly 100% of China's Polit Bureau is
engineers. Would these have anything to do with China's development rate
and USA's relative stagnation?
Many US cities had engineers as mayor, including Honolulu with Johnny
Wilson -- beloved mayor for 19 years in the 1940s and 1950s for whom the Wilson tunnels on Likelike Hwy. and an elementary school were named after.
